Over the last several years there’s been a ton of focus on integrated-inductor power modules within the world of SIMPLE SWITCHER® power devices. After all, what could be simpler than power supplies that only require two caps and one resistor external to the IC while still boasting excellent thermal and EMI performance?

With the increased emphasis on the SIMPLE SWITCHER power module– as well as the nano module – the SIMPLE SWITCHER converter started to feel a little left behind and unappreciated. This feeling was unprecedented after more than 20 years in the limelight, the SIMPLE SWITCHER converter had taken a backseat to the technological breakthroughs of integrated-inductor ICs that made power designs easier than ever.

But in the shadows, hidden from public view, the SIMPLE SWITCHER converter was planning his big comeback.

He knew that some customers preferred the flexibility of choosing their own inductor to tune solution size and efficiency. He also knew that excellent EMI and thermal performance were possible if he could make one significant adjustment.

He had to ditch the diode.

That diode had been a longtime friend. Hanging around since 1990, the diode had been a required companion, helping the SIMPLE SWITCHER converter to dissipate heat across a larger area. But with the solution size advantages presented by the SIMPLE SWITCHER power module, he knew he had to say goodbye.

And the synchronous SIMPLE SWITCHER converter was born.

With best-in-class EMI and efficiency that turns heads across the load spectrum, the synchronous SIMPLE SWITCHER converter reaches new heights and shares the spotlight with his power-module compatriots.
