The world of vision analytics: Unrestricted

Smart technology has been a common driver in the consumer markets, and in recent years we have seen industrial technology become more intelligent. Medical vision and machine vision have always been an interesting topic, and now other markets are starting to use imaging technology to drive smart innovations.

One particular market that has been interesting to me is analytics. Analytics enable applications that can extract useful information from seemingly uneventful data. The possibilities are limitless but until recently they have been heavily restricted to large machines and industrial cameras. I’m happy to say that this is no longer the case. With TI’s TMS320C5517 ultra-low-power DSPs, we are ready to enter the world of vision analytics that is not restricted by large footprints and large power consumption.

In conjunction with a small SNAP S2 sensor, the C5517 DSP is capable of extracting motion information, object tracking and other useful information in a self-contained package of less than two by two inches in size. With such a small footprint, vision analytics can go where no analytics have gone (or fit) before.

To see the C5517 and SNAP Sensor demo live, please visit our TI Booth at EELive! in San Jose, April 1 - April 4. What kind of data would you use smart technology for?
