Today, May 12, is celebrated as Limerick Day. In case you haven’t heard of this highly revered holiday, Limerick Day is celebrated to honor of the birth of English writer Edward Lear. He’s credited with “engineering” the limerick poetry style in the 1800s. A limerick is a five-line poem in which the first, second and fifth lines rhyme, and the third and fourth lines also rhyme. While limericks typically focus on nonsensical descriptions of a singular individual, we’ve decided to write our own device-inspired limerick. Of course, it’s designed to entertain while also educate.

With no further ado, I present:

Ode to the Op Amp

Don’t fear finding the op amp of your dreams!

Using datasheet specs will give you the means,

To help measure and calculate the results.

With this help, a troubled engineer exults:

Minimizing noise is easier than it seems!

My limerick was inspired by this Engineer It video on how to select an op amp based on datasheet noise specifications. In case you aren’t familiar with Engineer It, find our series of technical how-to videos from analog experts at ti.com/engineerit.

Thanks for joining us for the debut of our first engineering limerick. Now, show us what you’ve got! Are you inspired by your favorite product, design solution or end application?

Share your own limerick in the comments below!
